TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Highly flammable. Many reactions may cause fire or explosion.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking. NO contact with flammable substances. NO contact with contaminants. NO contact with hot surfaces.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Vapour/air mixtures are explosive.
Closed system, ventilation, explosion-proof electrical equipment and lighting. Do NOT use compressed air for filling, discharging, or handling.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water. Combat fire from a sheltered position.
EXPOSURE
PREVENT GENERATION OF MISTS!

•INHALATION Cough. Shortness of breath. Sore throat.
Ventilation.
Fresh air, rest. Half-upright position. Refer for medical attention.
 •SKIN
Protective gloves.
First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again.
 •EYES Redness. Pain.
Safety spectacles.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION Abdominal cramps. Vomiting. (Further see Inhalation).
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Ventilation. Remove all ignition sources. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Do NOT wash away into sewer. Do NOT absorb in saw-dust or other combustible absorbents. (Extra personal protection: filter respirator for organic gases and vapours).
Fireproof. Separated from combustible and reducing substances. Cool. Well closed.
Special material.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS TO YELLOW LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:
The vapour is heavier than air and may travel along the ground; distant ignition possible.

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating at 111°C , which increases fire hazard. The substance is a strong oxidant and reacts violently with combustible and reducing materials.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV not established.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour.

INHALATION RISK:
No indication can be given about the rate in which a harmful concentration in the air is reached on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance irritates the eyes and the respiratory tract.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
PHYSICAL
PROPERTIES
Boiling point (decomposes): 111°C
Melting point: -40°C
Relative density (water = 1): 0.8

Relative vapour density (air = 1): 5
Relative density of the vapour/air-mixture at 20°C (air = 1): 1.1
Flash point: 12°C c.c.
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 1-4
ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA

N O T E S
Explosive limits are unknown in literature, although the substance is combustible and has a flash point < 55°C. Health effects of exposure to the substance have not been investigated adequately. Rinse contaminated clothes (fire hazard) with plenty of water.
Transport Emergency Card: TEC (R)-52G01.

NFPA Code: H3; F2; R4; ox
