TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, powder, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 88°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 88°C use a closed system, ventilation.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE
AVOID ALL CONTACT!

•INHALATION Cough. Sore throat. Weakness. Dizziness.
Local exhaust or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN MAY BE ABSORBED! Dry skin. Redness. Pain.
Protective gloves. Protective clothing.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse skin with plenty of water or shower. Refer for medical attention.
 •EYES Redness. Pain. Blurred vision.
Face shield or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION Abdominal pain. Diarrhoea. Dizziness. Nausea. Vomiting. Weakness.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Give a slurry of activated charcoal in water to drink. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Evacuate danger area! Personal protection: complete protective clothing including self-contained breathing apparatus. If liquid: collect leaking liquid in sealable containers. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. If solid: sweep spilled substance into containers. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment.
Separated from strong oxidants, food and feedstuffs . Store in an area without drain or sewer access.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS TO YELLOW OILY LIQUID OR CRYSTALS. TURNS BROWN RED ON EXPOSURE TO AIR AND LIGHT.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on burning producing toxic fumes including nitrogen oxides. Reacts with strong oxidants. Reacts violently with lead dioxide.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: 0.1 ppm as TWA; (skin); A3 (confirmed animal carcinogen with unknown relevance to humans); (ACGIH 2005).
MAK: skin absorption (H); sensitization of skin (Sh);
Carcinogen category: 3B;
(DFG 2004).
OSHA PEL: TWA 5 ppm (22 mg/m3) skin
NIOSH REL: Ca C 0.14 ppm (0.6 mg/m3) 2-hr skin See Appendix A
NIOSH IDLH: Potential occupational carcinogen 15 ppm

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air can be reached rather quickly on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is irritating to the eyes the skin and the respiratory tract . The substance may cause effects on the blood , resulting in hemolysis. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. The substance may have effects on the blood , resulting in anaemia . This substance is possibly carcinogenic to humans.
