TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Flammable.
NO open flames, NO sparks, and NO smoking.
AFFF, alcohol-resistant foam, dry powder, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION Above 41°C explosive vapour/air mixtures may be formed.
Above 41°C use a closed system, ventilation.
In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.
EXPOSURE

 •INHALATION Cough. Headache.
Ventilation.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention.
 •SKIN Redness.
Protective gloves.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap.
 •EYES Redness.
Safety spectacles.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
 •INGESTION
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.
Rinse mouth. Refer for medical attention.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Remove all ignition sources. Collect leaking and spilled liquid in sealable containers as far as possible. Absorb remaining liquid in sand or inert absorbent and remove to safe place. Personal protection: filter respirator for organic gases and vapours.
Fireproof.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS VISCOUS LIQUID , WITH CHARACTERISTIC ODOUR.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: 50 ppm as TWA; (ACGIH 2004).
OSHA PEL: TWA 100 ppm (470 mg/m3)
NIOSH REL: TWA 50 ppm (235 mg/m3)
NIOSH IDLH: 500 ppm

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its vapour, through the skin and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
A harmful contamination of the air will not or will only very slowly be reached on evaporation of this substance at 20°C.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is slightly irritating to the eyes and the skin . Exposure at high levels of the vapour may result in irritation of eyes and upper respiratory tract.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis.

ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA

N O T E S
This substance is a mixture of three isomers (ortho, meta and para), with the meta and para forms predominating. The odour warning when the exposure limit value is exceeded is insufficient. Card has been partly updated in October 2004. See sections Occupational Exposure Limits, EU classification, Emergency Response.
