CIH Confined Space Entry & Underground Storage Tank Certification
DNA Industrial Hygiene provides Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) oversight for
Confined Space Entry
and
Underground Storage Tank (UST)
projects throughout California. Our services ensure your work meets all Cal/OSHA, environmental, and local agency requirements — safely, efficiently, and with complete documentation.
What This Service May Include
Hazard Evaluation
A CIH conducts a comprehensive assessment of the tank or confined space to identify:
- Atmospheric hazards (oxygen levels, flammables, toxic gases)
- Chemical residues or contamination
- Physical and structural hazards
- Conditions that determine whether the space requires a permit
This evaluation establishes the safety requirements for your project.
Air Monitoring & Atmospheric Testing
We perform all required pre‑entry and continuous monitoring, including:
- Oxygen concentration
- Combustible gases and vapors
- Toxic gases (e.g., H₂S, VOCs, benzene)
- Ventilation effectiveness
For USTs, this includes confirming the tank is
gas‑free
and safe for cutting, removal, repair, or entry.
Site‑Specific Safety Plan
A CIH prepares or approves a customized safety plan that includes:
- Identified hazards
- Required PPE
- Ventilation and control measures
- Lockout/tagout procedures
- Communication and rescue plans
- Monitoring protocols
This plan meets Cal/OSHA and local agency requirements.
On‑Site Oversight
A CIH or qualified safety professional provides:
- Direct oversight during entry or tank work
- Permit review and approval
- Real‑time monitoring and documentation
- Immediate adjustments if conditions change
This ensures safe operations from start to finish.
Certification & Documentation
Upon completion, we provide all required certifications and records, including:
Gas‑Free Certificate or
Tank Certification
- Confined Space Entry documentation
- Monitoring logs
- Compliance records for regulatory agencies
These documents are often required before work can proceed or be signed off by local authorities.
Agency Coordination
We coordinate with:
- Local fire departments
- Environmental health agencies
- CUPA programs
- Cal/OSHA
- Air Quality Management Districts
This ensures your project meets every regulatory expectation.
