TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE	ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS	PREVENTION	FIRST AID/ FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE	Not combustible but enhances combustion of other substances. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.	NO contact with combustibles.	In case of fire in the surroundings: use appropriate extinguishing agent .
EXPLOSION	Risk of fire and explosion on contact withcombustible substances.		In case of fire: keep drums, etc., cool by spraying with water.

EXPOSURE		PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! STRICT HYGIENE!
•INHALATION	Cough. Wheezing. Sore throat. Laboured breathing.	Local exhaust or breathing protection.	Fresh air, rest. Artificial respiration may be needed. Refer for medical attention.
•SKIN	Redness. Pain.	Protective gloves. Protective clothing.	First rinse with plenty of water, then remove contaminated clothes and rinse again.
•EYES	Redness. Pain.	Safety goggles or eye protection in combination with breathing protection.	First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
•INGESTION	Nausea. Vomiting. Abdominal pain. Diarrhoea.	Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work.	Rinse mouth. Give plenty of water to drink. Refer for medical attention.

Do NOT absorb in saw-dust or other combustible absorbents. Sweep spilled substance into covered containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Cautiously neutralize remainder. Wash away remainder with plenty of water. Do NOT let this chemical enter the environment. Personal protection: P2 filter respirator for harmful particles.

Cool. Dry. Well closed. Separated from combustible and reducing substances, strong bases.

Heating may cause violent combustion or explosion. The substance decomposes on heating producing toxic fumes including sulfur oxides . The substance is a strong oxidant and reacts with combustible and reducing materials. The solution in water is a medium strong acid. Reacts violently with chlorates and perchlorates in the presence of water causing explosion hazard. Reacts in the presence of water with metals such as aluminium causing fire hazard.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV: (as persulfate) 0.1 mg/m³ as TWA; (ACGIH 2004).
MAK: sensitization of respiratory tract and skin (Sah); (DFG 2004).

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly on spraying or when dispersed, especially if powdered.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance is irritating to the eyes , the skin and the respiratory tract . Inhalation of dust may cause asthma-like reactions.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Repeated or prolonged contact with skin may cause dermatitis. Repeated or prolonged contact may cause skin sensitization. Repeated or prolonged inhalation exposure may cause asthma. May cause general allergic reaction, like urticaria or shock.

The substance is harmful to aquatic organisms.

N O T E S

Rinse contaminated clothes (fire hazard) with plenty of water. The symptoms of asthma often do not become manifest until a few hours have passed and they are aggravated by physical effort. Rest and medical observation are therefore essential. Anyone who has shown symptoms of asthma due to this substance should avoid all further contact with this substance. Do NOT take working clothes home. Card has been partly updated in April 2005. See section Occupational Exposure Limits.
