TYPES OF HAZARD/ EXPOSURE ACUTE HAZARDS/ SYMPTOMS PREVENTION FIRST AID/
FIRE FIGHTING
FIRE Combustible. Liquid formulations containing organic solvents may be flammable. Gives off irritating or toxic fumes (or gases) in a fire.
NO open flames.
Powder, water spray, foam, carbon dioxide.
EXPLOSION

EXPOSURE
PREVENT DISPERSION OF DUST! AVOID EXPOSURE OF ADOLESCENTS AND CHILDREN!

 •INHALATION See Notes.
Local exhaust or breathing protection.
Fresh air, rest. Refer for medical attention. See Notes.
 •SKIN See Notes.
Protective gloves.
Remove contaminated clothes. Rinse and then wash skin with water and soap.
 •EYES
Safety spectacles.
First rinse with plenty of water for several minutes (remove contact lenses if easily possible), then take to a doctor.
 •INGESTION See Notes.
Do not eat, drink, or smoke during work. Wash hands before eating.
Rest. Refer for medical attention. See Notes.
SPILLAGE DISPOSAL STORAGE PACKAGING & LABELLING
Do NOT wash away into sewer. Sweep spilled substance into sealable containers; if appropriate, moisten first to prevent dusting. Carefully collect remainder, then remove to safe place. (Extra personal protection: P2 filter respirator for harmful particles).
Provision to contain effluent from fire extinguishing. Separated from food and feedstuffs.
Do not transport with food and feedstuffs.

PHYSICAL STATE; APPEARANCE:
COLOURLESS TO WHITE CRYSTALS.

PHYSICAL DANGERS:

CHEMICAL DANGERS:
The substance decomposes on heating or on burning producing toxic and irritating fumes including nitrogen oxides, phosphorous oxides, sulfur oxides. Attacks copper.

OCCUPATIONAL EXPOSURE LIMITS:
TLV not established.

ROUTES OF EXPOSURE:
The substance can be absorbed into the body by inhalation of its aerosol, through the skin and by ingestion.

INHALATION RISK:
Evaporation at 20°C is negligible; a harmful concentration of airborne particles can, however, be reached quickly on spraying or when dispersed, especially if powdered.

EFFECTS OF SHORT-TERM EXPOSURE:
The substance may cause effects on the nervous system , resulting in convulsions and respiratory failure. Cholinesterase inhibitor. Exposure may result in death. The effects may be delayed. Medical observation is indicated. See Notes.

EFFECTS OF LONG-TERM OR REPEATED EXPOSURE:
Cholinesterase inhibitor; cumulative effect is possible: see acute hazards/symptoms. See Notes.
PHYSICAL
PROPERTIES
Melting point: 34°C
Relative density (water = 1): 1.2
Solubility in water, g/100 ml at 20°C: 0.0025
Vapour pressure, Pa at 20°C: <0.001
Octanol/water partition coefficient as log Pow: 4.22
ENVIRONMENTAL
DATA
The substance is very toxic to aquatic organisms. This substance may be hazardous to the environment; special attention should be given to its persistence in soil. Avoid release to the environment in circumstances different to normal use.
N O T E S
No specific data on health hazard of this compound were available but many organophosphates are cholinesterase inhibitors (for instance, see ICSC 0172 on Malathion). If the substance is formulated with solvent(s) also consult the card(s) (ICSC) of the solvent(s). Carrier solvents used in commercial formulations may change physical and toxicological properties. Betamec, Betasan, Disan, Exporsan, Prefar, Pre-san are trade names.
